Lee “Spud” Inman

My name is Lee Inman.  I am an Instrumentation Specialist, (Field Service Engineer), with over 25 years in the trade.  I work for one of the premier waste water authorities in the world. I have 2 college diplomas gathering dust in the attic, but I proudly display my PHD’s from the “School of Hard Knocks” in the scars on my shins, knees, elbows, and head.

I am a family man.  I share my hiking/backpacking passion with my family on day hikes and weekenders, but I am at heart a Solo Hiker.  I travel light and fast, and enjoy the peace and solitude of the trail.  I hike free from the constant banter of a hiking partner, but do enjoy the passing company of others on the trail.

You may call me “Spud”, having been a solo hiker my entire life, I do not have a trail name.  ”Spud” is just a nickname I’ve been strapped with for over 20 years.  Do you remember “Spud McKenzie”, the Bull Terrier in the Budweiser commercials in the 80’s?  They are independent, hard headed, and focused.  That would be me.

I was born and raised in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. I spent 24 years hiking the mountains, and fishing the streams and rivers of SW. I honed my outdoor skills early in life by spending most of my free time on or near the Appalachian Trail.   Rock Climbing at Dragons Tooth, Spelunking in New River Cave, and fishing and tubing the New and Little Rivers, just to name a few.

I now reside in the “Flat Lands” of SE Virginia.  I continue to hone my outdoor skills on sand and gravel trails thick with briars, bugs, poisonous snakes, and 98 degree summer days.  I won’t mention the humidity. #1 Requirement for SE Virginia Hiking = HEAD NET! Don’t leave home without it!

My lifetime hiking goal is an Appalachian Trail Thru Hike beginning in March 2018.  SOLO!
