    Hi,

I live in Alexandria. Do you know the best way for me to get to the Appalachian Trail? I just want to pick it up as close to Alexandria as I can and hike for several miles. If you have a specific address of a parking lot, or directions, that would be great.

Hi April, two of the easiest spots for you to get to on the AT would either be Harper’s Ferry or the Chester Gap area right off of 66. No section of the AT is “close” to Alexandria, but you can probably be there within an hour or so drive. Check out the trails.com site for a map of the different spots http://www.trails.com/activity.aspx?area=10128#trailid=HGD110-040&lat=38.86451&lon=-78.1509&zoom=14&m=terrain&a=HK

    Thanks for commenting!

    Hi Chris,

My name is Mark Harrison; I work for Backpacker magazine, coordinating Backpacker.com’s index of interactive hiking maps. This year I’m looking to increase our coverage of Virginia hiking trails and in my search for potential map correspondents I came across your site. I notice that you have a trail information section of your site, but no maps to go along with your trail listings. I’m wondering if you would be interested in collaborating with me to create maps of your favorite VA trails that we would feature on Backpacker.com (and link back to this site) and which you could also use to embed in this blog (increasing the interactivity of your own site). If you’re interested, I’d be happy to give you a more thorough rundown of Backpacker’s mapping initiative. Feel free to call or E-mail at your convenience. Thanks for considering it!

    Regards,

    Mark Harrison
